I spent my 16th birthday in hospital having an abortion.
I fell pregnant with my first boyfriend just after having obtained the pill for the first time, I was waiting for my period so I could start taking it and it didn’t come.
It was a terrifying time, I was a child. I had dreams and ambitions, I hadn’t even finished secondary school.
I wasn’t mentally, financially or emotionally prepared to raise a child, and, with a mentally abusive boyfriend, I knew I didn’t want to be tied to him for the rest of my life.
It took a lot of time to get over it, but never once have I regretted the decision, it was the best thing for me and now, at 27, I look forward to being able to bring a baby into the world in a loving relationship, financial and emotional stability and give a child the best possible life I can offer.
